If poets and lovers of poetry don't write, publish, read, and purchase poetry books then we will have no say in the quality of our contemporary culture and no excuse for the abuses of language, ideas, truth, beauty, and love in our cultural life.

Los Angeles Times Festival of Books April 26th & 27th On the UCLA Campus
|

Poetic Matrix Press for the first time took our titles to the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books on the UCLA Campus. Touted as the largest
book festival in the country with over 100,000 people in attendance over the 2 days, we thought it a good opportunity to present our authors
to a wider book buying audience. With temperature in the 90s, and lots of people, we had a great time, met many good people and had a
chance to spend time with many of the press authors. Brandon Cesmat, Gail Entrekin, Sandy Stillwell, Joe Milosch, Tomas Gayton all came
by, read a few poems, chatted, sang a few songs (Brandon) and really enjoyed the time together. Charles Entrekin brought his new novel
Red Mountain 2 days before publication for a reading as well. We received a nice note in the Kenyon Review online by Kirsten Ogden (see
below). All in all a great time and a great opportunity. Thanks to Gail and John Dedrick for the pictures - John

Getting Burnt and Broke at the LA Festival of Books Part II
June 1st, 2008 by Kirsten Ogden
I was a bit disappointed in the lack of independent, Poetry
booksellers, but did run into a few new friends at the Poetic
Matrix booth (curiously set up in the Comix Strip area of the
book festival). I chatted with Sandra Lee Stillwell (pictured
above with fellow poet Joseph Milosch on her right), who read
me a beautiful poem from her new book. Standing in the sun on
a beautiful day listening to someone read a poem just for you?
Nothing like it.
