Support Patricia Nelson fund raising:

Follow Dante and others "Out of the Underworld": Pre-order Patricia Nelson's book. What can I say? The muse has struck again, and I have another poetry book. Poetic Matrix has agreed to publish it. I's seeking to pre-fund some of the production costs by asking for advance orders via this IndieGoG campaign. The book is written in the "Activist" style, to the best of my ability. Many of you who know me are familiar with this style. There is a reading of the title poem at the 2RiverVie

Amtrak Starbucks Jazz on the Streets of Richmond

Amtrak Starbucks Jazz on the Streets of Richmond by John Peterson

Downtown Side

Today I chose the downtown side
Barbed wire vacant lots trash in places
Orchards yes and small houses
Tiny castles dreams yes love filled castles
Where the mystery is revealed nightly
Between sheets between legs

So many mysteries no one can seize them
They are safe can never be taken by any
But the lovers in that we are sure

Law and Economic Order A Theory of Requisite Economy

by Peter Friesen

Economic Order A Theory of Requisite Economy by Peter Friesen

How is it that an engineer and a lawyer meet each other around the same issues? Why have I been asked by Peter Friesen to write this foreword? Well, neither of us have been trapped in our discipline, although both of us still are embedded in it. Where we meet is by sharing in our practice two experiences: the experience of language and the experience of organization. From the Forward by Luc Hoebeke, Belgian consultant, author and lecturer in the field of self organization, innovation processes and human activity systems.

In the Next Life

by Joan Baranow

In the Next Life by Joan Baranow

What They Say They say the universe isn’t slowing down
but speeding up. Ice crystals
beyond Pluto whirl away towards other suns. My friend
turns too fast on her bicycle,
feels her wheels flip up and she flies down to gravel on her elbow. Gravity’s hard work, gravity’s lack of humor.
Our own sun, chubby and sweaty, our burning Buddha, pulls us
with invisible strings, though
someday we will find the one equation that balances weightless
thoughts against stardust. How difficult it is some evenings just to climb the stairs.
“It’s a matter of entropy,” they say.
“Move faster.”

Out Soon

Conjugal

by Alicia Vandevorst

Alternate Eve
You rise from an adamantine ground
of silence, rich with unsaid shit, united sound;

you on the edge, in the middle, or changing tunes,
no one walks before you. No one bids with glances;

no one tills within your garden. For you stray everywhere,
alone and keen and sensitive to the coil

of spring in your own spine. So content with every subject,
you mate the present. You have no reason to object.

For in Eden, strangeness is what the lover digests.

A Matter of Selection

by Carol Smallwood

A Matter of Selection by Carol Smallwood

Near the Library Window

I reread the words about mythology becoming obsolete if man only applied his reason.

The fog outside seemed to rub
Prufrock’s question,
“What is it?” It must’ve known
napping students were not talking of Michelangelo.

It started to rain but turned
to snow and melted on the landing.

Quotes

I consider myself a poet first and a musician second. I live like a poet and I'll die like a poet.
- Bob Dylan

Here's the thing with me and the religious thing. This is the flat-out truth: I find the religiosity and philosophy in the music. I don't find it anywhere else.
- Bob Dylan

I'm the one that has to die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life, the way I want to.
- Jimi Hendrix

Listen, real poetry doesn't say anything; it just ticks off the possibilities. Opens all doors. You can walk through any one that suits you.
- Jim Morrison
