As most of us know by now Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani young woman who was shot by the Taliban in 2012, was chosen by the Norwegian Nobel Committee to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for 2014 along with Indian child advocate Kailash Satyarthi. Though her injuries were significant, she recovered and has become an even more powerful advocate for the rights of girls and all children to have a good education. Her voice has become even more important worldwide.
In 2014 our press had the great opportunity to publish Lyn Lifshin's beautiful tribute to Malala. Our Hearts Go Out to Sandy and Dennis
Sandy and Dennis lost their home in the Valley Fire.
Our Press had the opportunity to publish Sandy Stillwell's volume of poetry In a Dress made of Butterflies in 2006. This volume is beautifully written and has allowed us to get to know Sandy and her husband Dennis over the years. We had the chance to visit with Sandy and Dennis at their lovely place in Cobb and see and hear about all they had done and had planned for their property in the hills.
Our heart goes out to Sandy and Dennis and all of the other folks who lost their homes in this most devastating fire. We want them all to know that we are there for them. At the recent Watershed event in Berkeley we were able to raise some small sum of money to assist Sandy and Dennis. If you would like to assist please contact John at poeticmatrix@icloud.com.
